The Aesthetic Era (Late 19th Century): In cities like Paris and London, early cast-iron lamp posts often featured twin lanterns. This was primarily for symmetry and grandeur in public squares.

The Highway Revolution (1950s–1960s): As engineers began designing wide boulevards with a Median Strip (central reservation), they realized that placing one pole in the center to light both sides of the road was far more logical than placing two rows of poles on the outskirts. This marked the birth of the modern steel double-arm pole.

2. Why the Double-Arm Design Won?

The "invention" of the double-arm configuration solved three critical problems:

Infrastructure Optimization (The 50% Rule): One 12-meter double-arm pole replaces two 12-meter single-arm poles. This means half the excavation, half the concrete foundations, and half the cabling.
