1. Why Square? (The Advantages)
Architectural Synergy: Modern architecture is dominated by straight lines and right angles. A square pole aligns perfectly with building facades, window frames, and modular pavement, creating a cohesive visual "grid."
Ease of Accessory Mounting: The four flat faces of a square pole provide a stable foundation. Mounting CCTV cameras, 5G micro-stations, banners, or traffic signs is significantly easier. You can bolt directly to the flat surface without needing complex curved-surface adapters or specialized clamps.
Modern Aesthetic: Square poles project a sense of strength and "industrial chic." Because they require more complex manufacturing (precision folding rather than simple tube drawing), they are often perceived as more premium than standard round poles.
2. Engineering Challenge: The Wind Load (EPA)
From a Decano engineering perspective, the biggest difference lies in the Effective Projected Area (EPA).
The "Sail" Effect: A square pole catches significantly more wind than a round pole of the same width. Wind hits the flat face directly rather than being diverted around a curve.
The Compensation: To achieve the same wind resistance rating as a round pole for an 8m or 10m height, a square pole usually requires a thicker wall specification (e.g., using 4.5mm steel instead of 3.5mm).
3. When to Use Which? (Decano Recommendation)
Choose Square Poles for:
